Party planning for my 14th birthday (Read Details)?

Well, it's around that time again.

Last year, I made a big birthday boo boo by inviting 13 girls to sleep over at my house. Total disaster.

But hey! Another year older, another year wiser, right?

THIS year, I've decided to have a party- but not just any party.

A park party.

I want it to be from 7 - 10 pm, because it's going to be one of those cool, late, teenager parties. (Teenage does not mean alcoholic, mind you.)

I really need fun activities and games!!!!

I've never really had a big party before, and I don't want it to bomb.

I plan to have around 35 people. (Boys and girls.)

Does anyone have any "absolutely not's" they wish to share?

Any food and/or beverages that should be required for these kind of parties?

What kind of shuffle mix should I make for the music?

Also, would it be rude to put a brief list of gift ideas on the back?

I wouldn't want to offend my party guests at ALL.

My party is scheduled for the first week in April, so I have time to plan.

Party planning for my 14th birthday (Read Details)?
Food/beverages:

- Pop - Coke/Sprite at a minimum; diet drinks/fruity pops if you can. Make sure you have glasses and tons of ice, plus some cold water for non-pop drinkers.

- Chips - pick up a couple of cheap bags and dump them into large bowls to pick at.

- A party size pizza if you want to serve substantial food - cheap, and easy.

- If you're not getting pizza, pick up a tub of candy, some popcorn, or a box of cookies to serve with some chips.

What kind of music depends on your friends. Ask your friends for suggestions - amongst 35 of them, I'm sure they'll have some great ideas.

A list of gift is an etiquette no-no - it's considered quite rude. If your friends are really stuck, I'm sure they'll ask you what you want, or when you see them in person, you can subtly indicate what you'd like to receive.

Absolutely nots -

make sure it's VERY clear that there is to be no alcohol or smoking. I've seen too many party disasters happen during my high school years because of one unexpected guest bringing booze, drugs, cigarettes into the party.

Don't let wallflowers stand there uncomfortably - try to get them involved in conversations.

Good luck on your party, and don't worry if you have a couple of hiccups - your friends are there to see YOU, not see your party planning skills. ;-)
Reply:Dont makea list of what you want. If I saw that on one of my friends list i would totally not get her anything on it.

Get tons of soda. tons tons. you want people to be hyper at your party its more fun.

Get lots of danceing high beat songs. You want people to always be moving. And having a lot of fun.

Play some sport games for the guys like football and soccer. Games like that. You can get a bunch of bean bag chairs and lay them in an area in the park near the food where people can just chill and talk.

Dont forget to have tons of food. Expecially since youll have guys there, and girls can eat a lot too.

have fun. and why dont you ask your friends for some ideas. that whay youll know what they all want and can incorprate that in your party. :)

Good luck! :]
Reply:Well I think you are over thinking things Lei Lei. But thats okay. Hmmm...you should just burn a mix CD of as many fast songs as you can. Like Rihanna's don't stop the music! I like that one. And you can put Imogen Heap in there for advertisement. Hmmm...and be weary since its a park, older kids will come and drink alchohal and smoke pot it your presence. 0_0
Reply:This may sound really corny but here goes. What about a big blow up of your daughter and play pin the hair barrett on. volley ball. My one advice, get grown up help! I did a samll party for my son when he was 13 with no help. Big mess!!!
Reply:OK, first no to the gift list on you invite, they are your friends and your age so they pretty much know what you like and today most people get gift cards or cash.

Music compile a mix of what you like and songs that you know your friends like to listen to, make sure that there is enough so that you are not repeating songs during the time you are there. Set up a place were you kids are able to dance.

Food if your parents are there in which I am sure they will be, have a cookout with hamburger and hot dogs, kids always like that and it will be the easiest thing to do in a park setting and the most fun. Have some chips and dips around and maybe some cold salads, like macaroni and potato's, soda and water for those who don't like soda.

Games your in a park, set up for games like Volleyball, badminton, kickball, maybe softball game, maybe even play a silly game of tag, three legged race. You could even set up for a scavenger hunt, set up teams and a list of things to collect within the part(leaves, twig, etc) and who ever gets all the things wins. You can come up with a bunch of silly games that may seem kind of lame at your age but you will have so much fun when you guys are doing it. Happy Birthday!!!!
Reply:A park party interesting......you could have coke sprite..and

fizzy drinks...include plain water just in case something(dont

ask me why i include that..:D)35 ppl quite big i think for music have a dancing theme..like techno and rock..too much rock not good...if your friends are geeks ...i think...classical music..maybe...lovey dovey music also can!...for food a must oily larh...if fwen vegetarian..vege..which i dont think so.....fast food is a must and tidbits no alcohol must be included cause at midnight something bad will happen if you include taht......i think its rude if you want the list as long your friend noe inside what you wanted they will get it for you!!!...Thats all I can say.....gd lk organizing!!!
Reply:You party sounds fun, but here I my ideas to make it great:

Music - get a couple of compilation cds i.e. "Best of Summer 2008" so you have a few different genres of music.

Food - Just get chips, dips, finger foods ect. so you don't have tonnes to clean up.

If I was you I wouldn't put a gift list on the back, because unless you can think of 35 gifts, you will get 3 or 4 of everything.

Hope this helps.
