Third party?

I have a question in my HW says

4. Research 3 political parties and compare and contrast the parties platforms. Research the Democratic party, the Republican party and you may choose any 3rd party of your choice.

I know the the Democratic party, the Republican party

but I have never heard of a third party

can someone tell me what is it please?

thanx

Third party?
third party should be from the bureaucrats/administrate rs who immediately replace the other two party members when they don!t get the majority of votes from the people.

it should be the third option, not the third party otherwise the third party will be same like the first two.
Reply:There are several "3rd parties"

Constitution Party

Communist Party

Libertarian Party

Independent Party

Green Party

and numerous smaller, regional and state ones.

With our current system, a 3rd party is a wasted vote. The winner-take-all nature of the Electoral College forces out narrow focus, limited appeal candidates.

However, if a 3rd party was to make a go of it, there is a way. It would involve getting a large number of like minded people to move to a sparsely populated state that already has favorable inclinations. Christian Conservatives to SC, Environmentalists to OR or WA, socialists to VT, etc. Then, get candidates to run for statewide office; governor, senator, etc. Then when the presidential election comes around, run that candidate with the intention not so much of winning the presidency, but winning the state. Removing that states electoral votes will generate the kind of recognition that will force the other two parties to address the 3rd party’s concerns.
Reply:Green Party, Libertarian Party
Reply:The 3rd parties are within the democrats and republicans.

Ron Paul is a great example of a "3rd party". He is very different from the neocons, and very different from the democrats, however he was accessable at the mainstream debated. Dennis Kucinich is another example more towards the democrat side.

*Ralph Nader is a example of a "green party" candidate who very closely resembles democrats. Its like so many democrats calling themselves "independents" however they agree with every democrat platform. Yet another reason to look for that "3rd party candidate" in not another party, but the current parties.

A true on paper named 3rd party will NEVER appear at debates, and therefore NEVER get the exposure needed. Why? Because the mainstream media is owned by about 2 conglomorates.

*For the record, my 3rd party of choice would be 1) The Constitution Party or 2) The Libertarians. I believe the smaller the government the better. There is no "Classical liberal" party anymore tho it would be great right about now.
